Key facts about the funding
What is the Zero-Emission Heavy Duty Vehicle Purchase Grant Scheme?
According to Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Ireland’s transport sector is heavily reliant upon oil and is committed to transitioning to allow carbon economy by 2050. To promote the decarbonisation of the freight sector and to encourage companies towards this path, the Department of Transport has appointed TI to administer the Zero-Emission Heavy Duty Vehicle Purchase Grant Scheme.
The Scheme awards grants to assist companies and enterprises that wish to buy zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles (ZEHDV). Grant amounts are calculated as a percentage of the difference in price between a ZEHDV and its diesel equivalent.
The grant levels awarded to applicants depend on the following factors:
Vehicle Eligibility
Funding for Vehicles
The funding covers a portion of the cost difference between an electric vehicle and an equivalent diesel model, and the percentages available are based on organisation size:
Vehicle eligibility is extensive, and includes Minibuses of 11-17 seats, with an indicative weight range of 3.5tn-5tn.
Funding for Infrastructure
Funding is also available to cover a portion of infrastructure costs, including equipment, electrical upgrades, and civil works. The amount of funding available is dependent on the size of the organisation:

Why make the switch to electric vehicles now?
Switching to a zero-emission heavy-duty vehicle fleet offers a host of benefits for businesses in Ireland. Not only does it significantly reduce your carbon footprint and environmental impact, but it can also lead to substantial long-term cost savings. Electric minibuses from providers like EVM eliminate the need for rising diesel costs, while offering lower maintenance costs and increased energy efficiency. With the generous funding available through Ireland’s grant scheme, covering up to 60% of vehicle and infrastructure costs.
The transition to a sustainable fleet has never been more accessible. By taking advantage of these incentives, businesses can modernise their operations, future-proof their transportation, and demonstrate a clear commitment to environmental responsibility. The switch to zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles represents a smart investment in both your company’s future and the planet’s.
